From a non horsey background Stanley Grange Stud
was founded some 26 years ago by Jerome Harforth. Self taught on a
Shetland-cross pony at the age of three, he then progressed to his
first formal riding lessons at the age of nine.
Now famous for the production and breeding of
some of the most well known Show Ponies, Hunter Ponies, Hacks and
Riding Horses, he started off jumping and progressed rapidly on a
succession of ponies. Some proved to be unsuitable, but nonetheless
he learned from them all.
The Stud was formed in 1975 with Philomena, a
SP mare that had previously taken Jerome through his 138cm showing
years. Also in this year Norwood Jemima and Groundhills Golden Girl
were bought for Jerome by his Great Uncle "Uncle Authur".
The Stud expanded rapidly with the acquisition of
Seaholm Julius, a 148cms Riding Pony Stallion. He was the first
stallion to stand at public stud and attracted a number of outside
mares.
It has since grown into one of the most
successful Studs in the UK today. A number of ponies have been
exported to Australia, Europe and America and all have continued
with tremendous success.
Around 15 Broodmares are kept at the Stud,
ranging from 12hh - 15.2hh. All mares are champions in their own
right or breeders of champions. Stallions range from 12hh through to
the Thoroughbred, all having outstanding bloodlines. Youngsters are
for sale ranging from Show Ponies, Hunter Ponies, Intermediates
Hacks and Riding Horses.
Located in North Yorkshire, Stanley Grange Stud
stands in 130 acres of post and rail paddocks and also incorporates
some excellent facilities. It is easily accessible, with an
excellent road network and Durham & Tees Valley Airport being some
15 miles away.
